Getting Started
Do guests need to download an app?
No. Guests join by scanning a QR code or opening a link. Everything runs in their mobile browser — no installs, no accounts, no friction.
How long does it take to set up an event?
Most organisers are up and running in under 10 minutes. Create an account, pick a mode, add your questions (and stops, for a hunt), then share the link or print the QR codes.
Can I try Huntly before paying?
Huntly is completely free while in beta — every feature included, no credit card required. Just create an account and start.
The Five Modes
What can I run with Huntly?
Five modes from one dashboard: QR scavenger hunts (teams scan stops around a venue), live quizzes (push questions to every phone at once, Kahoot-style), live polls (anonymous word clouds, ratings and multiple choice with results that update live), surveys (a self-paced multi-question form for feedback), and audience Q&A (guests submit and upvote questions for you to answer live). All share the same no-download experience for guests.
What's the difference between a hunt and a live quiz?
In a scavenger hunt, players move between physical stops and scan a QR code at each one, in any order. In a live quiz, everyone stays put and answers the same question at the same time, with a speed bonus for the fastest correct answers.
How does audience Q&A mode work?
Guests submit questions from their phones and upvote others — the most popular rise to the top. You reply in writing, mark questions as answered, or dismiss them live from the dashboard. There's no scoring; it's a clean back-channel to the stage.
Players & Teams
How many people can join an event?
There's no hard limit on participants. For team modes you set up teams, and a team can share one device among as many people as you like.
Do guests need to create an account?
No. Guests only enter a team or player name when they join. No email, no password, no account required.
What phones and browsers are supported?
Any modern smartphone with a browser works. iOS Safari, Android Chrome, Firefox — if it can load a webpage (and scan a QR code, for hunts), it works.
Pricing
How much does Huntly cost?
Huntly is free while in beta — every feature included, no credit card. Paid plans for larger and recurring organisers will arrive after beta, and beta users will get plenty of notice before anything changes.
Is there a per-player fee?
No. Huntly has no per-player fees. Run your event with as many participants as you need.
Will I be charged when the beta ends?
No surprise charges. We'll announce pricing well ahead of time, and you'll choose whether to continue on a paid plan.
Do you offer discounts for schools or nonprofits?
Yes — reach out via the contact page and we'll sort something out.
Running an Event
What happens when my event ends?
The event is archived and live participant data is cleaned up automatically. A session snapshot is saved so you can review the results later, and you can email the results to yourself.
Can I approve open-ended answers manually?
Yes. Open-ended answers appear in a queue in the organiser dashboard. You approve or reject each one in real time while the event is running.
Can players see each other's progress?
Yes — the live leaderboard updates in real time. Display it on a screen at the venue or share the URL with players.
What if a guest's phone loses connection mid-event?
Pages are independent — guests just reload and continue. Answers already submitted are saved. The experience does not require a persistent connection.
